Company Information

General Truck Parts began its business in Chicago, Illinois in 1971. At that time, the company specialized in new and rebuilt transmissions, transfer cases, differentials, axles, and light & heavy duty part sales. In the 1980’s, the business was expanded to include pumps, PTO’s, steering gears, power steering, hydraulics, brakes, clutches, and drive shafts.

In 1997, General Truck Parts purchased General Transmission in Melrose Park, Illinois. It is here where we rebuilt automatic transmissions including Allison’s.  In May 2010, General Transmission has relocated to 3835 W. 42nd Street in Chicago. By having all of our facilities in a 4 block radius, we aim to service all our customers better.

In 2002, Spicer Off-Highway certified General Truck Parts as an Authorized Service Center and Remanufacturer of Spicer, Kirkstall, Clark-Hurth, Sige, and Comaxle. Having this accreditation allows us to get parts and assemblies to you fast.

Currently, we have approximately fifty employees, most of which have many years of truck part experience. Our journey men mechanics are some of the best in the industry. They belong to the Local 701 Mechanics union. 50% of our employees have been with General Truck Parts for 10 years or more. Our president, Gregg Chudacoff, has been with the company for over 30 years. His partner and our founder, Robert Smith, had been in the industry for over 40 years before he passed away in August, 2009.

General Truck Parts is located approximately two miles from Midway Airport. We are in five buildings accounting for over 150,000 square feet of warehouse space. It is in this space that General Truck Parts stores one of the largest inventories of “Hard to Get” undercarriage parts for trucks, rubber tire cranes, and construction equipment in the country. If you are in the area, stop by for a tour of our facilities.
